Are you planning a Solar Eclipse Party?
With all of the excitement buzzing about the 2017 Solar Eclipse, I really wanted to make a black cocktail drink. I found lots of fun recipes for Halloween Cocktails but they all required black food coloring. After a failed attempt at DIYing black food color (it’s a long story), I decided to look for a recipe that did not require food coloring.
A recent trip to Havana, Cuba inspired to do something with the Cuban Rum I brought back. The Cuba Libre doesn’t require many ingredients and it is the perfect drink for this hot weather. Plus, it is so easy to make.
Since I had shimmery silver Sprinkles and Halloween sprinkles in the cabinet, I used those to garnish the rim of the glass. I picked those colors to make the drink feel more like a Solar Eclipse themed drink. I also used a splash of Simply Limeade instead of lime juice and garnished with a slice of lime.
This recipe could easily be used at a Halloween Party too. Just switch to orange and black sprinkles instead of black and silver on the glass. Easy-peasy!
Cuba Libre: Solar Eclipse Edition Recipe
1.) If you want to garnish the glass, do this (optional): Coat the rim of the glass in lime juice by sliding a sliced lime around the rim. Then, pour sprinkles or garnish of your choice onto a plate and roll the rim of the glass in the sprinkles. You can also use honey to make the garnish stick better
2.) Fill your glass with ice (I just threw in a handful).
3.) Pour 2 oz. (= 2 shots) of Rum. I used a dark Cuban rum from Havana.
4.) Pour in 4 oz. of Coca-Cola or fill almost the remainder of the glass (just leave room for lime juice if you prefer).
5.) Throw in a splash of Simply Limeade or just squeeze lime juice into the glass.
6.) Optional: Garnish with a slice of lime and straw. You can get the straws in a huge pack on Amazon.
7.) Enjoy!
